A Striking Bronze of the Young St. John the Baptist, French, 19th century
Signed LaFrance, Roma 1873, Jules-Isidore LaFrance (1841-1881) was a student of Maillard, Duret and Cavelier; he received the Premier Grand Prix of Rome in 1870. He debuted at the Salon in 1860, where he won the 1st Class Medal in 1874 and 1878; and at the Exposition Universalle that same year. He would also be bestowed the Legion d'honneur. Ref. Benezit
